Hunger Pains is the latest full length release from underground heavyweight Bekay. Over the past few years, Bekay has created a loyal, cult-like following in the underground hip-hop community by relentlessly recording, performing and grinding. Known for his complex imagery, shock value and clever wordplay, Bekay has established himself as a rather controversial figure in the hip-hop game. The former 106 & Park contestant and Rawkus 50 alumni joined forces with the burgeoning Brooklyn-based Coalmine Records to craft a body of work that will clearly be defined as Bekay’s benchmark release to date. Hunger Pains is a project that took several years to complete and enlists several noteworthy guest appearances and producers. From hit maker J.R. Rotem’s cinematic production on “Visions”, to the legendary Masta Ace on the DJ Babu produced feel good summer anthem “Brooklyn Bridge”, to the smash single “I Am” produced by The Alchemist, Hunger Pains showcases the rare unification of an underground rapper with a major label sound scape. From start to finish, Hunger Pains is a major achievement that will solidfy Bekay’s standing in the game as an artist dedicated to both the progression and preservation of this culture.

Odd Nosdam - T.I.M.E. Soundtrack

Any of you remember the skate video ELEMENT - THIS IS MY ELEMENT?  I’m sure you do.  It’s a really good video and is only a couple years old.

Do you remember the music from it?  All instrumental (for the most part, I think except Bam Margera).  Anyways, everything was by Odd Nosdam and lots of it was from this album.  Grab it, it’s rad.

From Last.fm:

“Odd Nosdam, real name David Madson, visual artist, DJ, record producer and member of the Anticon hip hop collective. Madson has performed in, produced and designed cover art for the alternative hip-hop bands Greenthink, cLOUDDEAD and Reaching Quiet, as well as releasing a variety of solo works, including Burner (2005, Anticon), No More Wig for Ohio (2003, Anticon), Reject Odd Nosdam (2001, self released), and Plan 9, Meat Your Hypnotis… (1999, self released). Nosdam has toured with, remixed, produced, mixed and collaborated with a wide variety of artists including: Boards of Canada, Mike Patton, múm, Jessica Bailiff, Thee More Shallows, Serena-Maneesh, Jel, WHY?, Fog, Dosh, Sole, Alias, Hood, Peeping Tom (album)

Most of his early works were released initially only on a limited number of hand-made cassettes and distributed entirely through the internet and tape trading, the cLOUDDEAD s/t LP Plan 9, Meat Your Hypnotis… were created during the winter of 1998 into the spring of 1999 using only a Dr. Sample, a cassette deck, and his “trusty” Tascam 8-Track. The re-release of the 55-track beat tape by Mush kept all of the original clicks, pops, tape noise, and hiss intact. Odd Nosdam’s musical style is heavily influenced by ambient soundscapes, 70’s dub, late 80’s/early 90’s hip hop production as well as indie rock, preferring older musical equipment (Dr. Sample Sp-202, E-MU SP1200), to create a rounded, warm mush of sound fortified with inspired beats.”

Apathy - Wanna Snuggle?

OH shit! new AP!  This is bangin!  As I expected!  I will admit though, I was suprised that pretty much all of it was produced by AP.  Not as many of the normal roster guests featured as I expected, but I wont hold it against him.

I can’t wait for that new GET BUSY COMMITTEE! COMING SOON!

Anyways, grab the album.  Enjoy it and then go purchase it HERE

From UGHH.COM:

Connecticut’s world famous rhyme wrecker returns with a warm hug and a deadly snakebite on his sophomore full length album, Wanna Snuggle? Apathy, known as lead MC of the indie fan favorite Demigodz clique as well as a member of Jedi Mind Tricks’ Army of the Pharaohs crew, follows up 2006’s well-received Babygrande Records Eastern Philosophy debut with a brand new masterpiece of 21 songs.

Painstaking lyricism, strangleholding mic presence, high caliber rap flows and upper echelon neck-snapping production round out this release in true Demigodzilla fashion. Some of the highlights include the uptempo “Shoot First”, which is a Mike Shinoda produced track featuring the legendary B-Real (of Cypress Hill) and Celph Titled, as well as a collaboration with J-Live called “This Is The Formula”. Little Brother’s own Phonte makes a cameo on “True Love”, and some soulful hooks are laced across the album courtesy of Chip-Fu (of Fu-Schnickens) and Wu-Tang vocalist Blue Raspberry. Also contributing a major factor to the album is singer Holly Brook, best known for Fort Minor’s chart topping “Where’d You Go” single and video. Fort Minor, Get Busy Committee, Demigodz and AOTP family are definitely in full effect throughout the project, including Ryu (of Styles of Beyond), Motive, Emilio Lopez, King Magnetic, Veze Skante and more.

The bulk of production is handled by Apathy himself, who has been building up a production resume producing for Tiye Phoenix, Styles of Beyond, 7L & Esoteric, Eternia, and upcoming albums from Cypress Hill and Edo G. This is an impressive body of work and is much anticipated by faithful fans that Apathy has steadily accumulated from his long list of indie vinyl era 12” singles, album-like mixtapes, epic double disc It’s the Bootleg compilation and relentless domestic and international touring. Sure to be contender for Hip Hop album of the year, Wanna Snuggle? smashes completely through the sophomore jinx and delivers timeless rap music for you and yours.

Iron & Wine is the stage and recording name of folk rock Sam Beam (born July 26, 1974). He currently resides in Dripping Springs, Texas, outside Austin and has released three studio albums, several EPs and singles, as well as a few download-only releases, which include a live album (a recording of his 2005 Bonnaroo performance). The name Iron And Wine is taken from a dietary supplement named “Beef Iron & Wine” that he found in a general store while shooting a film.

Beam was raised outside Columbia, South Carolina, United States where his father worked in land management and his mother was a schoolteacher. He graduated from the Florida State University Film School with an MFA degree. Until the first Iron And Wine album, Beam’s main source of income was as a professor of film and cinematography at the University of Miami and Miami International University of Art & Design. He had been writing songs for over seven years before a friend lent him a four-track recorder. His friends handed out copies of demos that he had made, and the owner of Sub Pop Records personally contacted Beam and proposed a deal.

Beam released his first album, The Creek Drank the Cradle, on the Sub Pop label in 2002; Beam wrote, performed, recorded, and produced every track on the album by himself at a studio in his home. The album features  guitars, , and slide guitar; its music has been compared, variously, to that of Nick DrakeSimon and GarfunkelNeil YoungElliott Smith, and Ralph Stanley.

Music for a Sunday afternoon

So Val posted about three albums on her blog.  These were, as her title said, “music for a sunny sunday afternoon.”

Here’s the link to her post: http://valerielinalegere.blogspot.com/2009/07/music-for-sunny-sunday-afternoon.html
